Step 1 of 8 - the essentials About you

About you

First up, the basics.

If you've been chatting with ChatGPT about your business, it already knows a lot about you. Open ChatGPT and ask it: "Based on our conversations, write a summary of my business: what I do, who my clients are, how I communicate, and my business rules." Then paste the result below and we'll use it to pre-fill the rest.

What you do

Tell us about your business. Keep it natural, like you're explaining it to someone at the pub.

So Claude can write accurate quotes and proposals for you.

Claude will use these when drafting quotes. It stays in your file, never shared.

Your clients

Who are you selling to, and what do they care about?

So Claude writes emails that sound right for your audience.

Your tools OPTIONAL

What software and apps do you use to run your business? List everything, even the simple stuff.

How you communicate OPTIONAL

This helps your AI match the way you actually talk and write.

This is how Claude will write emails and messages on your behalf.

Your availability OPTIONAL

When can clients reach you, and when are you off the clock?

A bit about you and your team OPTIONAL

The more Claude knows about the people in your business, the more natural it sounds. This section is optional but it makes a real difference.

So Claude can reference your team by name, like "get Jake to handle that job on Tuesday."

The more Claude knows about you personally, the more human it sounds. This never leaves your computer.

Your rules

What should your AI always do, or never do? These are your non-negotiables. You can always add more later.

These are your non-negotiables. Things Claude must always do or never do. Start with whatever comes to mind, you can add more later.

You can add more rules later. Start with whatever comes to mind.

Building your briefing file...

Pulling your answers together now.

Your AI briefing file is ready

Here's what we built from your answers. Have a read through, then grab a copy.

Your CLAUDE.md file is ready. Here's exactly what to do with it.

Step 1: Download the file

Click "Download as file" above. It saves as CLAUDE.md to your Downloads.

Step 2: Create a folder in Documents

Open Finder (Mac) or File Explorer (Windows). Go to your Documents folder and create a new folder named after your business, like "UGC by Katrina - Claude" or "Mitchell Plumbing - Claude". Move the CLAUDE.md file from your Downloads into this folder.

Step 3: Open Claude and select your folder

Open Claude. At the bottom of the screen, click "Select folder". Navigate to your Documents folder and pick the folder you just created. Claude reads your CLAUDE.md automatically.

Step 4: Test it

Start a session and type:

"Write me a short email to a client who enquired about my services last week. Keep it casual and warm."

Does it sound like you? That's your briefing file working.

Chapter 4 sets up your folder structure with spaces for skills, templates, and notes. But for now, you've done the hard part. Your AI knows your business.
